Behind the scenes at No Bindings: zine packs & home-schooling

The UK is in its third lockdown and home-schooling has been a difficult task for lots of parents who are balancing work at the same time. Lily Green, No Bindings’ director, decided to create a zine pack for kids to help out families on her street in Bedminster - in this ‘Behind the Scenes’ blog post, she answers a couple questions on why.

Heather Marks: What prompted you to create these zine packs for parents?

Lily Green: I was reading an article about the strain prolonged home-schooling is having on families and wondered what I could safely provide for the families on my street.

HM: What do the zine packs contain?

LG: Inside the envelope is:

  • A small square fold out that explains what a zine is.

  • 3 or 4 zines from my own collection.

  • No Bindings ‘how to make a zine’ guide in A4 and A3 size

  • a blank sheet of circle stickers to personalise

  • two small wrapping paper pattern scraps, blue and red

  • 5 pieces of 100% recycled A3 paper.

  • thick yellow and blue GF Smith A3 card

  • a Japanese woodblock print

HM: What is the hope for these zine packs?

LG: At the very least, my hope is that the materials provide an hour’s worth of entertainment! At most, parents know they can ask me for extra materials if the kids particularly enjoy personalising stickers or making origami zines.
